This year’s Waterfest promises to be better than ever. The festival, Excelsior Spring’s biggest of the year, includes all the old favorites along with new additions, all crammed into two days. Around 20 more vendors means an entire extra block of fun for families.

The kids’ area, hosted by the Excelsior Springs Community Center, expands with this year’s event. It will include an inflatable water slide, a new game called “hover t-ball” where a stream of water acts as the tee, a bounce house and other games. Wristbands for the area cost $10 and give kids unlimited access.

The adults can look forward to an expanded area for those 21 and older, as the Beer Garden, a longtime favorite, also offers flavored “ritas,” including strawberry, lime, peach and mango flavors. These drinks tie into this year’s tiki-party theme.

Excelsior Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Director Tosha Jackson says she looks forward to the headlining concert.

“I’m really excited about (country singer) Casi Joy,” she says. “She seems like a ray of sunshine. I think she’s going to be a bring a great crowd.”

Waterfest is from 10 a.m. to after 9 p.m. Friday, and from 7 a.m. to after 9 p.m. Saturday around downtown Excelsior Springs. Casi Joy will perform at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and the event’s fireworks finale is at 9:50 p.m. Saturday.
