The Third Annual Chamber Golf Classic drew more than 30 participants to Shirkey’s Golf Course at 10 a.m. Friday.

“We’re trying to keep the tradition going,” said event emcee Brock Dover, Richmond School District assistant superintendent, at the course moments before the start of play.

The one-day, four-person scramble offered two flights, along with all-day food and drink specials. Player paid $100 each to play and support the community.

The tournament is a civic fundraiser, he said.

“We’re having the Chamber Golf Classic to support our Christmas decorations for the Richmond community,” Dover said.

No, he said, Santa’s elves do not make decorations appear magically.

“We’re fortunate to have wonderful sponsors and wonderful participants to play in this event,” Dover said.

Chamber planners hope to raise at least $3,500, he said: “It’s attainable.”
