Norborne Hardin-Central varsity 8-man football coach Kirk Thacker and his staff have some teaching to do. That point is clear to Thacker as he directs the Aggies this week, in their first training camp during summer vacation.

“We’re a little green,” he said during an interview Tuesday at the Aggies’ practice field in Norborne.

Attendance for the camp, which concludes Thursday, June 7, at Norborne, is slightly above 70 percent — of the 15 players Thacker expects to be on his roster this season, 11 are at camp. One is absent because he’s attending a 4-H camp, and two are absent because they’re attending a Future Farmers of America camp, according to Thacker.

The longtime coach expects a freshman to join the varsity squad after Norborne Hardin-Central’s junior high football season ends.

Thacker isn’t concerned about having a small roster this season, he said.

“I’ve had less,” Thacker said, chuckling.
