Dorothea (Dee) J. Cavanaugh


Dorothea (Dee) J. Cavanaugh, 89, of Richmond and formerly of Kansas City, Mo., died Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Dee was born Nov. 24, 1928, in Stet to Virgil and Thelma E. (Hoover) Kavanaugh.

Survivors include: sisters, Louise Young of Richmond, previously of south Kansas City, and Lois Burnham and husband Frank of Orrick; nieces, Lori Withers (Clay) of Independence and Kim Gerson of Leawood, Kan.; nephew Jeff Burnham of Lee’s Summit; and great-nieces and nephews Garrett (Julie), Abby and Austin Withers, Tyler and Luke Gerson, and Alex and Elizabeth Burnham; and great-great nephews, Carson and Mason Withers.

Dee worked at BMA and then at Menorah Hospital, first in public relations and later as director of volunteers, retiring after 38 years there. Dee enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful friends, both in the Kansas City area and around the country. Dee was fun-loving and a wonderful sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed dearly.

The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Dee be made to the Shirkey Foundation. They can either be dropped off at Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main, or mailed to PO Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
