The lone freshman on the Richmond Spartan golf squad survived Monday’s sectional test at the Green Hills Golf Course in Chillicothe to advance to next week’s Class 3 state tournament in New Bloomfield. Timmy Hamilton carded a 15-over par 87 to finish in a tie for 14th place, which was good enough to keep his golf season going. The top two teams and low 12 individual players not on those qualifying teams advance to the state tournament that will be played at Meadow Lake Acres Golf Course Monday and Tuesday.

Bishop LeBlond, the sectional champions by 42 strokes over South Harrison, had the individual medalist and the runner-up. Hank Lierz shot a five-under par 67 to earn medalist honors, with teammate Brooks Jungbluth finishing three shots back.
