‘Get away from the chaos’ at Victory Fest

Victory in the Park was initially organized around praise and Jesus Christ, but Cowboy Chapel Pastor Mike Stephens, one of the celebration’s organizers, has another message:

“It’s for everyone in the community. We’re not preaching. … Yes, there’ll be praise and gospel music,” he said, “but mainly we wanted to give people an opportunity to get away from all the chaos in the world, and just enjoy a day in the park with your family and neighbors.

“All this division stuff that’s out there —we go the opposite way” and bring people together, he said.

The third annual fete’s theme is “Celebrate Jesus!” The free event, at Maurice Roberts Park, will feature games and activities, a bounce house, hot dogs and lemonade, and an appearance by Clydesdale horses from Buffalo-Six Ranch in Ray County.
