Dorothy Marie (Nutter) Jackson

Dorothy Marie (Nutter) Jackson, 98, of Liberty, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at Center Point Medical Center in Independence.

Dorothy was born on May 23, 1919, in rural Ray County to Ed and Lela (Wall) Nutter.  She married Joe Lee Jackson of Lawson on June 7, 1942; he preceded her in death  July 10, 1984.

Dorothy is survived by her children, daughter Karma and husband, Waymon, Garrett of West Plains and Kent and his wife, Ceressa, Jackson of Gladstone; five grandchildren: Brett (Michelle) Jackson, Blake (Sarah) Jackson, Kyle (Aliana) Jackson, Kelcee (A.J.) Johnston and Karrie (Luke) Stokes; 10 great grandchildren and one on the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Almeda Best and Martha Manning.

Dorothy grew up in rural Ray County and was a graduate of Millville High School.  She attended college in Warrensburg, where she would graduate as an elementary teacher.  Dorothy spent many years teaching 3rd and 4th grades including art in different school districts including Higginsville, St. Joseph, Liberty and Lathrop.  Dorothy was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Liberty.  She enjoyed art and traveling and was an avid reader.

The family suggests memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Hickory Grove Cemetery.  Memorials may be left or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 190, 507 East Main, Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond with visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.  Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at
