The Richmond City Council focused on public works at its May 8 meeting, unanimously approving a bid for more than $300,000 for the 2018 road-improvements mill/overlay project.

Advanced Asphalt Paving & Concrete of Grain Valley submitted a bid of $330,822.92 for the project, about $40,000 below the estimated cost, according to City Administrator Tonya Willim, who was officially appointed to her new post at the meeting. Willim had been city clerk/assistant to the administrator for eight years.

She pointed out that the city has worked well with Advanced Asphalt before, on a 2016 project. “We were really happy with them,” she said. “We have a good relationship with them, and they did a great job.”
