Richmond High School boys and girls track coach Mike Long on Saturday had what he called “an awesome experience.”

Saturday afternoon in Jefferson City, Long saw Richmond’s 1,600-meter relay team of Trevon Alexander, Kenton Delana, Andre Pritchett and Aidan Dorton — all of whom graduated from RHS in mid-May — placed third in the Class 3 state meet in a school-record time

of 3 minutes, 26.52 seconds. For placing among the top eight, each runner received a medal to take home from their final race together.

To Long, the journey to the third-place finish began in 2016, when he persuaded Alexander to run in the 1,600 relay. According to Long, that journey also included adding Pritchett to the relay team this season and getting major contributions from Delana and Dorton.

“All four of them combined together to just make a very solid team,” the longtime coach said.
