New R-XVI board elects Berning, Vandiver as top officers

Jon Thoreson officially bid the Richmond R-XVI Board of Education farewell Tuesday night — and used a dash of Spanish to do so.

That night at the School District offices, Tom Williamson (who was still board president until after the election results were certified later in the evening) recognized Thoreson and fellow outgoing board member Connie Taylor for their service. Taylor, who was absent, saw her 15-year stint end on April 3, when she placed third in the school-board election. Thoreson, a board member since 2012, didn’t seek re-election.
