The Richmond Spartans put together possibly their best half of the season Friday night and finished just as strong in a 70-40 win over visiting Lexington. Unlike the last meeting two weeks ago, no late-game heroics were needed in Friday night’s MRVC East showdown. In the Jan. 19 matchup, the Spartans needed a late 19-4 run to secure a 71-61 over their closest conference competition.

Friday, Richmond scored the first 9 points of the game and never looked back as the Spartans ran their league record to 8-0 while second-place Lexington falls two games behind with two remaining.

Spartan coach Kevin Jermain said his team still has work to do.

“We knew we had a chance (to clinch at least a tie for conference title) going into it and now the goal is to get it outright,” he said.
