Grievance filed against RHS principal, superintendent

Two teachers, others claim school is ‘an atmosphere of intimidation, fear and unchecked authority’

Two women Richmond High School teachers say that RHS Principal John Parker, backed by Superintendent Dr. Mike Aytes and others in the administration, has created “an atmosphere of intimidation, fear and unchecked authority” at the school, along with communication between them and staff that is either nonexistent or chaotic.

“It feels like static when you walk in our building. Everyone’s on pins and needles. You can feel the tension,” said one of the women, a business teacher who has been with RHS for nearly two decades.  The other is a math teacher who left the district in late January.

That negative environment, they say, disrupts the learning process, creates undue stress among teachers, parents and students, and has led to many good teachers leaving the district.
