William E. ‘Bill’ Hambrick

William E. “Bill” Hambrick, 82, of Richmond, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at NorthCare Hospice House, North Kansas City, Mo.

Bill was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Hodge, to George W. and Pauline (Frazier) Hambrick. He married Emma Mae Hewlett, of Henrietta, June 15, 1961. She preceded him in death Aug. 31, 2010.

Survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Willie E. and Charlotte Hambrick, of Warsaw, and Chuck Hambrick, and his companion, Tammy Menke, of Richmond; two daughters, Tammie Foster, of Richmond, and Renee Kellerman, and her companion, Jim Strider, of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Hambrick; andtwo sisters, Wilma Butler and Ruthann Parks.

Bill was a farmer. He also worked for Larry Hicks, Cathy and Karen Slade, Collie and Gary Burgess. He was the mushroom king of Ray County. He sold melons and vegetables at the 10-13 Diner parking lot for several years. Bill was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Richmond American Legion Post 237 and Ray County VFW Post 4398. He was a member of the Heavy Laborers Union local 663. He lived in the Henrietta area most of his life before moving to Richmond.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the family’s choice.

Visitation was 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors provided by Ray County Veterans and the United States Army was in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
