Man charged with sex crimes with 5-year-old

The child’s father contacted Richmond police in April, telling officers of an alleged sexual episode that occurred between Appleberry and the child in 2016, according to Richmond Police Detective Scott Bagley’s probable cause statement.

A 42-year-old Richmond man is charged with multiple counts of statutory sodomy involving a 5-year-old boy.

Phillip L. Appleberry, of Richmond, faces three counts of first-degree deviant sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14, an unclassified felony, and misdemeanor first-degree sexual misconduct for acts that allegedly occurred in 2016. He was charged Dec. 4 by the Ray County Prosecutor’s Office.
