Making the season brighter

Chamber plans to highlight Richmond businesses with Christmas lights

By Leah Wankum, Editor

Christmas is a little bigger and brighter in Richmond this year.

Thanks to area donations at the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce’s second annual golf tournament earlier this year, the chamber began its first stages of expanding Richmond’s Christmas displays hanging from the town’s light poles.

The chamber has raised more than $10,600 to go toward expanding the hanging displays of Christmas bells and wreaths from its past two golf tournaments. That number comes from Natalie Lamar, executive director of the chamber. With that money, the chamber purchased new electrical outlets for all 52 Christmas displays as well as 20 new brackets with which the displays are hung.

With the additional brackets, the Christmas displays are “spread out more evenly around town,” Lamar said.

“This will be the biggest, most noticeable expansion of the displays and the whole process,” she said.
