NHC GETS EARLY HOLIDAY GIFT

By Shawn Roney/For The Richmond News

The severe storms last Saturday night in Ray County couldn’t prevent Norborne/Hardin-Central coach Kirk Thacker from receiving what Thacker considered a “nice little early Christmas gift” – or perhaps an “early Halloween gift,” given the time of year.

And it was a present not only for himself, but also for his team.

While visiting the MSHSAA website shortly before Hardin lost power Saturday, Thacker learned the Aggies wouldn’t play Osceola to open the District 4 8-man football tournament, as he and Osceola coach Paul Carney had expected. He learned they would play Northwest of Hughesville at 7 p.m. Friday at Hardin-Central instead. Osceola will play Chilhowee.

“It (power trouble) froze my screen with it on there,” Thacker recalled Monday.
