Robert D. Rice

Robert D. Rice, 85, of Richmond, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, surrounded by family at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Richmond.

Robert was born June 24, 1932, in Useful, to Alonzo and Edna (Owens) Rice. He married Pat R. Lock, of Chamois, July 3, 1954; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, David and Gloria Rice, of Lenexa, Kan.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy and Dale Hankins, of Rayville, and Sandra Wood, of Richmond; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta Lefever; four brothers and two sisters.

Robert served 3 ½ years in the Navy during the Korean War. He was employed in Kansas City with Russell Stover Candies for 20 years before moving to Jefferson City where he was employed by the Missouri Department of Revenue for 12 years. Robert retired in 2000 and moved with his wife, Pat, to Bella Vista, Ark., where he spent most of his time on the golf course. They then moved to Richmond in 2007.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

As per Robert’s request, a private service will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be left at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of these arrangements.
