The Richmond Lady Spartans put six runs on the board in the bottom of the first and that was all they needed in a 17-0 rout over visiting Higginsville Tuesday at Southview Park. The Lady Spartans collected 16 hits, while Abby Vandiver shut down the Lady Huskers on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

It was the second shutout of Higginsville by Richmond as the Lady Spartans pushed their MRVC East mark to 6-1, and overall record to 11-8, and dropping Higginsville to 3-4 in the league and 4-7 overall.

Richmond cleanup hitter Ashley Wilton did just that for the Lady Spartans going four for four with five RBI’s, including a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double to end the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
