Karl Delbert Wenzel

Karl Delbert Wenzel, 80 of Norborne, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richmond.

Karl was Oct. 5, 1936, in Norborne, the son of Karl W. and Alma (Berning) Wenzel. He attended school in Norborne and graduated with the Norborne High School class of 1954. Karl left Norborne immediately after graduation to serve in the United States Army, and was stationed in France until his honorable discharge in 1956. He enjoyed many different professions during his working years such as: electrician, plumber, Norborne policeman, fireman and a farmer who truly enjoyed going to the fields to tend to his row crops. Karl built the house he lived in at Norborne, and in his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. He was the Norborne Fire Protection District fire chief for 17 years. He gave a total of 26 years of service to the district. He was a past 911 board member, and a past Norborne city councilman. Karl was a former Carrollton V.F.W. Post 1773 commander, former district commander of District 1, and a member of the Norborne American Legion Post 551, as well as a lifetime, faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne.

Karl leaves Darlene, his beloved wife of 55 years; his daughter, Diana Cowsert, and husband, Rod, of Norborne; two step-children, Linda O’Dell, and husband, Lonnie, of Hale, and Kenny Veach, and wife, Sherri, of Richmond; one sister, Joyce White, and husband George, of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Lee Cowsert, of Norborne, and Jennifer Cowsert, of Norborne; six step-grandchildren, Duane O’Dell, and wife Tara, of Hale, BreAnne Bratton, of Richmond, Megan Butler, and husband, Brad, of Concordia, Garrett Veach, of Richmond, Tyler Veach, of Greenwood and Tamara Utley, of Brookfield; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karla Utley; and one grandson, Christopher Utley.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at Bittiker Funeral Home, 1201 N. 65 Highway, Carrollton. Funeral services are 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Norborne, with Pastor Kim Scharff officiating.

Karl will be laid to rest in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, where Pence-Lovell-England Post 1773 will pay its final respect by providing full military honors.
