Don’t let the blessings become your bondage

When the children of Israel went to Egypt, it was a great blessing. Remember, there had been a great drought and famine in the land. The brothers of Joseph went down to buy grain from Egypt. Joseph—through God’s providence—had become second in command to Pharaoh of Egypt. He was in charge of all rationing and reserve of grain.

For God had given him the interpretation for Pharaoh’s dreams some years earlier. God also gave Joseph the wisdom of how to prepare for the coming famine. Through the reuniting of Joseph and his family, all Israel was given land and provision in Egypt by Pharaoh. It says in Genesis 45:27 that the spirit of Jacob was revived hope and new life. He was once again revived into newness of life. Unfortunately, they became comfortable, and what started as an incredible blessing from God slowly became bondage.
