Harry Glendon Lyon

Harry Glendon Lyon, of Carrollton, passed away at 10:44 a.m., Tuesday, July 4, 2017, with his beloved wife and several loved ones by his side, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.

He was granted an earthly life of 83 years, six months, and one day.

Harry was born Jan. 3, 1934, at the family home in rural Carroll County, to Lloyd Haines and Bertie Ula (Simpson) Lyon. Growing up on the family farm, he enjoyed many freedoms, often surrendering to the many responsibilities of farm life. Harry completed his formal education by attending Star School in the Trotter Township, near McCroskie Creek.

On Aug. 29, 1953, Harry was united in marriage to Patty Sue Lee in Carroll County.

Harry had an understanding of how to maintain the family farm. He spent his entire working life managing between row crops and cattle on this piece of ground that meant everything to him. He was also a truck driver, hauling gravel, fuel and fresh milk from area dairy farms.

He was a 57-year member of Blue Lodge, Bosworth Lodge 597, consolidated with Hale City Lodge 216, proudly earning his 50-year pin. He was a 51-year member of the York Rite Bodies of Independence and a 49-year member of Ararat Shrine in Kansas City, and earned the Nobel Grand of the IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) Lodge in Carrollton.

Harry is survived by his beloved wife Patty Sue; his children, Lloyd Lyon, Janet O’Neal, Ronald “Ronnie” Lyon and Larry Lyon (Pam), all of Carrollton; sister, Cora Lou Brinkman, of Billings; sister-in-law, Carolyn Lyon, of Norborne; 10 grandchildren, Amy Hughes (Gary), Stacy Kretzer (Steve), Susie Merkel, Brandon O’Neal (Brandy), Matt Lyon, Jason Lyon (Cassie), Bobbie Jo Lyon, Christopher Lyon (Stacey), Dustin Lyon and Brianne Brown (Matt); and 23 great-grandchildren. They each shared an individual and special relationship with their grandpa and a love that never fades and will always keeping his wisdom near. Harry had the greatest companion and most loyal pal for more than 18 years, a Toy Fox Terrier he simply called Squirt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Nadene Lyon, who sadly died in infancy; Gerald Lyon, Imogene Amelon, Kenneth Lyon; brothers-in-law, Harold Brinkman and Herman Amelon; and his sister-in-law, Doris Lyon.

Masonic services took place at Hale Lodge 216, at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8. Funeral services followed with Pastor Martin Brooke officiating, at Foster Funeral Chapels, Carrollton.

The family hosted a warm fellowship from 10 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the services.

Visitation was 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 7, at Foster Funeral Chapels.

Interment was in Beaty Cemetery/McCroskie Creek in Carroll County.
