H-C selects Danner as secondary school principal

The Hardin-Central C-2 School District has a new principal.

Near the end of a special meeting Monday night at the district schoolhouse, the Board of Education voted 7-0 to hire Zack Danner as principal for grades 7-12. Danner, who works in administration at Raytown Success Academy in the Raytown C-2 School District, will succeed Phyllis Pruter. Pruter recently resigned, effective when the school year ends.

“(I) felt like his experience in his administrative role that he does now  (would) lend itself – as far as the roles and duties that he does –  (and would) serve well for the position of high school principal … here at Hardin,” said Superintendent Trey Cavanah shortly after the meeting adjourned.

Kyle Foster, board president, also felt that Danner’s experience in administration was a selling point.

“A lot of times, we get new hires for principals,” Foster said. “Sometimes, it works out. Sometimes, not so good.”

Danner’s hiring resulted from a search process that lasted about six weeks. Cavanah said the district listed the job opening from Feb. 15 to March 15 on its webpage “and two state websites for education personnel.” The superintendent estimated that 10 people applied, with four of them interviewed.

“Mr. Cavanah whittled down the stack,” Foster said.
