Former funeral director taken into custody

No additional charges expected, AG’s office says

The former owner of three area funeral homes, charged with stealing money from customers who set aside money to pay for future funeral costs, was arrested this week.

Toby Polley, 47, was taken into custody Tuesday, according to an official at the Ray County Jail. Polley had his first court appearance Tuesday before Associate Circuit Judge Lori Baskins. Polley was placed in the Ray County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000 cash-only.

Polley owned and operated three funeral homes located in Richmond, Excelsior Springs and Lawson.
