Give God praise for the gift of life

howard-jeromey-sigLife is such a gift.  I know many of you have probably heard things said along this line over and over in different ways.  Well, that is because it is true.  Every day, every second we breathe and live on this earth is a gift and we must appreciate and live it to it’s fullest.  Live this day and no other. LIVE!

One of my most beloved professors shared a bit of scripture with us as we found ourselves worrying about what would be and what was to come.  More often than not that was in the midst of learning or teaching biblical Greek with her.  She would tell us, “Let the evil of the day be sufficient.” She was drawing from Matthew 6:34.  She was telling us to not worry about tomorrow, and instead, live in the moment.  Not to worry about the possibility of good or evil of the not now; there was enough of both for us to deal with today.

That may seem a bit weird for some to repeat this bit of scripture in times of trial or worry but it works for me. In fact, I said this to myself as I opened my devotional to read from the writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  He shares:

“Every new morning is a new beginning of our life.  Every day is a complete whole.  The present day marks the boundary of our cares and concerns (Matt. 6:34; Jas. 4:14).
