John Harvey Barnett Jr.

John Harvey Barnett Jr., 73, of Kansas City, Mo, formerly of Richmond, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016 at his home.

John was born April 5, 1943, in Kansas City, Mo., to John Harvey and Dorothy E. (Thompson) Barnett Sr. He married Linda Gail Driskell, of Richmond, Nov. 4, 1966. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 2012.

Survivors include: a daughter and son-in-law, Dina Rena’and Kevin Allen Blackmore, of Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers, George Lacey Barnett, of Independence and Harry Russell Barnett and his wife, Beth, of Richmond, W.V.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marguerite Ellen “Peggy” and Bob Treese, of Kansas City, Mo., and Kathryn Ann and Thomas Rankin, of Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters, Niccole Rena’ Pearon and Alexandria Nadine Pearon; one step-granddaughter, Alena Leighanne Blackmore and his uncle, Harry Caulfield, of Independence.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, James Leslie Barnett and Gary Lee Barnett Sr.

John worked as a salesman in the electrical industry for more than 30 years. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of Bee Hive Lodge 393 A. F. & A. M. in Lawson. John was a member of Ararat Shrine. He was a member of the RLDS Church. He lived in Richmond for 44 years before moving back to Kansas City in 2014.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.

Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Masonic services will precede the visitation at 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.   Funeral services are 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home.
