County considers building safe room for severe weather

Ray County commissioners are considering building a safe room next to the Eagleton Center for local residents and visitors to use during severe weather.

Eastern Commissioner Allen Dale said commissioners have discussed the possibility of constructing a safe room with their grant writer and an architect.

“We’re looking into it,” he said.

While the room would be built like a storm shelter, Presiding Commissioner Gary Wilhite said safe rooms are equipped only to house people for around two hours.
