Merlin J. Hicks

Merlin J. Hicks. 72, of Henrietta, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Liberty Hospital.

Merlin was born Oct. 30, 1943, in Longmont, Colo., to Hershal and Marrietta Faye (Price) Hicks. He married Linda L. Hewlett, of Henrietta, June 2, 1979; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry Keith and Shelly Hicks, of Grain Valley and Kevin Hicks and his companion, Judy, of Linn; two daughters and one son-in-law, Konnie and Robert Clancy, of Rayville and Tracy Goers, of Warsaw; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Dean Hicks and his companion, Ingrid, of Polo and Jimmy Joe and Shirley Hicks, of Polo; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his faithful companion, Dori.

In addition to his parents, Merlin was preceded in death by one son, Merlin Michael Hicks and one daughter, Angie Davis.

Merlin was a United States Navy veteran. He was a self-employed carpenter. He also worked for U.S. By Products in Henrietta. He was a member of Henrietta Baptist Church. Merlin lived in Polo before moving to Henrietta 37 years ago. He loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandkids and friends. Merlin was an excellent wood craftsman.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Merlin J. Hicks memorial fund.

Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 17, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 18, at the funeral home. Burial is in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be provided by Ray County Veterans. Online condolences maybe left at
