Are you ready for that 4th of July cookout?  How about wowing your guests with these spectacular burgers on the grill.   – Pat


1 large green pepper, chopped

1 large onion, chopped

6 green onions, thinly sliced

6 garlic cloves, minced

1 egg

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon dry bread crumbs

1 tablespoon cream cheese

1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

1/4 teaspoon ground mustard

1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

2 pounds ground beef

8 hamburger buns

Combine the first 16 ingredients in a bowl. Add ground beef and mix well. Shape into eight patties. Grill until no longer pink. Serve on buns. Yield: eight servings.


2 pounds ground beef

1/2 cup honey

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon curry powder

1/8 teaspoon ground ginger

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 cup soy sauce

1 can (23 oz.) sliced pineapple, drained

8 hamburger buns

lettuce leaves, optional

Combine the first seven ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Shape into eight patties. Grill the burgers uncovered over medium-hot coals for three minutes per side. Brush with soy sauce. Continue grilling for 4-6 minutes or until juices run clear, basting and turning several times. During the last four minutes, grill the pineapple slices until browned, turning once. Serve burgers and pineapple on buns with lettuce if desired. Yield: eight servings.


1/4 pound bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled

1/2 large onion, diced

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

Combine bacon, onion, cheese and salt. Set aside. Shape beef into six thin patties. Put bacon mixture on three patties. Top with remaining patties and press edges to seal. Make sure patties are no thicker than one inch. Grill until done, about four minutes on each side.


1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese

1 jar (4 oz.) sliced mushrooms, drained

1/3 cup mayonnaise

6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

6 hamburger buns

lettuce leaves and tomato slices, optional

Combine cheese, mushrooms, mayonnaise and bacon in a bowl. Cover and refrigerate. Combine the beef, onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder and hot pepper sauce in another bowl. Shape mixture into six 1/2-inch thick patties. Grill covered over medium-heat for 4-5 minutes on each side. Spoon cheese mixture on top of each burger. Grill 1-2 minutes longer or until the cheese begins to melt. Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato if desired. Yield: six servings.


2 pounds ground turkey

1 cup plain bread crumbs

2/3 cup finely chopped onion

1/2 cup ketchup or tomato sauce

2 tablespoons lemon juice

4 teaspoons soy sauce

4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1/4 teaspoon pepper

8 burger buns

lettuce if desired

Mix all ingredients except  buns and lettuce in a large bowl until well blended. Shape mixture into eight patties, 1/2-inch thick.  Lightly oil grill rack. Place patties on grill. Cover grill and cook over medium heat 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 165 degrees. Meanwhile, place buns cut side down on grill. Cook 1-2 minutes or until lightly toasted. Place patties in lettuce-lined buns.


• To keep a pie crust from becoming soft and soggy during baking, try warming the pan before placing in the crust.

• Tomato juice will remove ink spots on clothing. Allow to soak for 20 minutes before washing.
