Edney finishes 18th in rain-shortened state tourney

By Russ Green/Sports Editor

Orrick golf coach Mitch Comstock said it was a miserable couple of days at the Class 1 state tournament Monday and Tuesday in Nixa. The rain forced all of the golfers off the course at the Fremont Hill Country Club after only a few holes had been completed in the first round on Monday.

They returned to the course Tuesday to finish the tournament that had been reduced to an 18-hole test.

Orrick’s Brandon Edney battled his way through the elements and finished with an 87 on the par-71 course. Edney’s total was good for a three-way tie for 18th place and Comstock said he liked the way his senior kept his focus throughout two days.

“I’m very proud of how Brandon responded to the tough conditions he faced,” he said. “We talked about how important focus would be and he definitely did what we talked about.”
