Sarah Ann Brown

Sarah Ann Brown, 86, of Richmond, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Lawson Manor in Lawson.

Sarah was born June 17, 1929, in Hughesville, to Roy and Sally (Anthony) Hughes. She married Lee Jonathan Brown, of Waco, Texas, Nov. 7, 1955. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2011.

Survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ronald and Joyce Brown, of Leesville, S.C. and Greg Brown of Liberty; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Brown, of Excelsior Springs and Kathy and Nick Oster, of Richmond; one sister, Lorene Hicks, of Odessa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sarah was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth W. Brown; five brothers, Siegel Hughes, Walter Hughes, Gene Hughes, LeRoy Hughes and Truman Hughes; and three sisters, Virginia Casteel, Faye Balk and Dorothy McFail.

Sarah worked at S&K Industries in Lexington for 10 years. She also worked for the North Kansas City School District in the maintenance department. She was of the Christian faith. Sarah lived in the Knoxville area most of her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Voice of the Martyrs.

Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in Mt. Moriah Terrace Park, Kansas City, Mo. Online condolences may be left at
