Prevailing-wage error skewed RHS science wing estimate

The architect for proposed Richmond High School science wing improvements told the district last week that bids came in higher than expected because of a miscalculation in Ray County’s prevailing wages.

Prevailing wages for each of Missouri’s counties are determined annually by the state Department of Labor & Industrial Relations.

Gary Barbee, an architect with the Springfield, Mo., firm of Sam Winn & Associates, told district administrators by email he was unable to recalculate his figures in time for a special school board meeting Dec. 29.
