Gary Franklin Stein

Gary Franklin Stein, 69, of Rayville, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born June 24, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., to E.F. “Frank” and Vera (Harris) Stein. He married Melody A. Norris, of Excelsior Springs, in March 1971. She preceded him in death Nov. 4, 2009.

Survivors include: one son, Ben Stein, of the home; one daughter, Misty Stein, of St. Joseph; several nieces, nephews and cousins; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Donna Norris, of Edwards; and two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Debbie Sullivan, of Excelsior Springs and Cheryl and Rick Marrant, of Richmond.

Gary was a 1964 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. He worked for the United States Postal Service at KCI Airport for 33 years before retiring in 2009. He received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Finley Engineering College in Kansas City, Mo. Gary was a past grand member of the I.O.O.F. in Excelsior Springs. He was a member of Rayville Christian Union Church. He lived in the Excelsior Springs area most of his life.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rayville Christian Union Church.

Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Polley Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. Online condolences may be left on our website at
