Bearcats honing gridiron skills

Orrick football players are honing their gridiron skills this week to prepare for the coming season.

The Bearcats started their latest junior high and varsity summer football camp on Monday. The evening camp will conclude Friday on the Orrick R-XI campus.

As of Monday, there were 20 players attending, according to Orrick varsity head coach David Rash. The total was “a little less” than expected, Rash said.

“We’ve got a few guys missing,” he stated.

The camp follows Orrick’s June camp. During that camp, the Bearcats installed “about five plays” into their system, Rash said.

“We’re just kind of building off of that,” he said.

After this camp, Rash hopes the Bearcats will “have a basic knowledge of our offense and defense,” he said. He also hopes they’ll “understand blocking and tackling.”

Collin Inks, a junior offensive tackle and defensive end, believes that learning the offensive and defensive plays during camp will prove to be a welcome time-saver later.
