Despite wind, Spartan golfers improve to 4-1

The Spartan golf team managed the wind to sweep a triangular Wednesday afternoon at Shirkey Golf Course over North Kansas City and Carrollton. The Spartans, now 4-1 overall, bounced back one day after splitting another triangular with Lawson and Excelsior Springs at Shirkey.

Richmond combined to shoot a 188 Wednesday to defeat NKC (197) and Carrollton (235). Philip Kincaid was the medalist for the day with a 42 on the par-36 course. Cole Cage of North Kansas City was 2 shots off the pace to finish as runner-up.

Tyler Pyche carded a 48 for Richmond, followed by Austin Bowman and Andrew Bidding with 49 and Kanon Franklin with 56. Jacob Reffit had the low Carrollton round with 56.

Nathan Richey shot a 50 for Richmond to earn junior varsity medalist honors as the Spartans defeated NKC with 253. CJ Dana finished with a 60, followed by Clayton Macey with 62, Jesse Covey with 65 and Dom Cravens with 65. Also for Richmond, Caleb Isaacson carded a 67 and Blaine Wyse had a 69.

Lawson’s TJ Pennington shot even-par 36 Monday afternoon to take medalist honors as the Cardinals swept a triangular from Richmond and Excelsior Springs at Shirkey Golf Course.

Lawson ended the afternoon with 169, while Richmond dropped its first dual of the year after shooting a 202. Excelsior Springs shot 211.
