Millard C. Yoakum Jr.

Millard C. Yoakum, Jr. 86, of Richmond, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Liberty Hospital, Liberty.

Millard was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Ray County, to Millard Clead and Jenny Bell (Whitmer) Yoakum Sr. He married Shirley Alice Moran of Baltimore, Md., Aug. 11, 1955. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 2003.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Diann Yoakum of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Kathleen and David Dugger of Richmond, Jennifer and David Jones of Sugar Creek and Stephanie and Harry Sappington of Independence; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Yvonne Van Brakel of Colorado Springs, Colo.

In addition to his parents and wife, Millard was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Earl Yoakum, Whitmer Yoakum and two sisters, Mildred Pike and Lula Margaret Cahow.

Millard was owner and operator of Yoakum Appliance and Repair in Richmond for over 20 years. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of American Legion Post 237 and VFW Post 4398. Millard was an active member of the Ray County Veterans Honor Guard. He was a member of the Richmond Christian Union Church and a member of God’s Squad, and rang bells for the Ray County Salvation Army for several years. He lived most of his life in the Ray County area.

The family suggests memorial Contributions be made to Richmond Christian Union Church.

Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 5, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, March 6, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors provided by Ray County Veterans is in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
