Annual soil-crop conference Feb. 5 features five specialists

Researchers, seed and fertilizer companies and growers themselves do all they can to turn farming into a more predictable way to make a living.

But weather, climate change, market trends, pests and disease make it as much a roll of the dice for them as a science.

Missouri Extension offers Ray County growers a hedge against the odds with its annual “Soils and Crops Conference,” which takes place Thursday, Feb. 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the VFW/American Legion building on Clark Street.

The program includes a lunch catered by Nadler’s, and those interested in attending are asked to register no later than Feb. 2 to ensure that there’s adequate food on hand. The conference is sponsored by a number of local businesses, but there’s a $10 charge to cover the unfunded cost.
