Dawgs ground game too much for Wolves

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

East Atchison and Hardin-Central played on even terms through the first quarter and a half Friday night at Fairfax. The Wolves held a 14-12 lead in the second period before the Bulldogs scored 26 unanswered points on the way to a 52-20 victory.

The Dawgs, now 6-1 for the season, ran for 512 yards on the legs of Sean Utley (24 carries, 209 yards; and Rhyler Estenbaum (30 carries, 301 yards). Utley scored five touchdowns, with Estenbaum crashing the end zone three more times.

A pair of Brendon Burns touchdown passes helped the Wolves (3-4) to a 14-12 lead midway through the second frame. East Atchison answered Estenbaum’s 18-yard run in the first quarter with a 15-yard scoring strike and then ran the conversion to give the home team an 8-6 lead. Utley’s eight-yard run early in the second period gave the Dawgs a 12-8 lead after the failed conversion, but that was quickly answered by Jacob Masonbrink’s eight-yard scoring reception.
