Late run lifts RHS to 5-0 in league

oon, but made the most of them to run their MRVC East softball record to 5-0 with a 3-2 win over visiting Knob Noster. The Richmond victory came one day following a tough 5-3 home loss to district rival Excelsior Springs at Southview Park.

Richmond scratched out a run in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday to hand the Lady Panthers a 3-2 setback. The Lady Spartans ran into some tough hitting luck as they collected just seven hits. Several balls were right at Knob Noster fielders throughout the afternoon.

“We didn’t hit the ball very well, and when we did it seemed to go right to them, but this team is resilient,” Richmond coach Staci Maddux said. “They never quit. They just seem to find a way to win.”

Madison Cole began the game-winning rally when she reached on an error and stole second base. Mallory Cole followed and got on with another Lady Panther error. Madison Cole scored the game-winner when she came home on Hannah Millsap’s RBI ground out to second base.

Nicole Camp kept the Knob Noster bats in check over her seven innings. The Lady Spartan senior scattered five hits and walked a pair, but struck out 10 with only one earned run.

Knob Noster scored its two runs in the fourth, but Richmond cut the deficit in half in the home half of the frame on Paige O’Doniel’s double off the centerfield fence and Sydney Stigall’s run-scoring single.
