Huskers snap Lady Spartan win streak

The Lady Spartan tennis team stretched its early-season win streak to three games after a road win at Excelsior Springs Wednesday, but MRVC East power Higginsville snapped the string the following day with a 7-2 decision.

The Lady Spartans, now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference, played well against the four-time defending champion Lady Huskers in the loss according to RHS coach Duane Bastob.

“Higginsville has always been good and their 2014 squad is no different,” he said.

The Lady Spartans captured the No. 2 doubles match with Kalynn Persell and Bre Miller defeating Allison Poynter and Nicole Head 8-2. The lone single victory came with Miller getting past Regan Wood 8-4 at No. 5.

Persell lost at No. 1 singles and Cora List lost at No. 2 by identical 4-8 finals. Emily Harris lost at No. 3 by a 1-8 decision, and Jamie Baker fell 4-8 at No. 4. Kyra Lathrop battled at No. 6 singles before coming up short 7-9.
