Panthers beats heat, Summit Christian in opener

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Wiley Martin ran for 178 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Polo to a 32-27 road win over Lee’s Summit Christian. Martin had 17 carries for the night and also added a pair of two-point conversion runs as the Panthers totaled 350 yards of offense.

Polo head coach Kyle Ross thought his team played well despite the heat against a tough Christian Academy team that would not go away.

“I thought that we played extremely hard and showed great toughness in the face of terrible elements and a quality opponent that wouldn’t quit,” he said. “We had way too many unforced errors that will have to be cleaned up in order to improve to the level of play that we will need to be at by the end of the year.  Our kids have worked hard and will continue to do so as we go through this season.”

The Panther defense held Christian to just 63 total yards. Max Bryan led the Eagles by passing for four touchdowns.
