Netters fall at Odessa

The Lady Spartan tennis team traveled to Odessa to begin the new season on a hot Monday afternoon. The Lady Spartans managed just two victories in singles play while Odessa swept the doubles matches in a 7-2 decision.

“We competed well,” RHS coach Duane Bastob said. “We just need to learn how to win at the varsity level for us to feel better about ourselves.”

Richmond’s No. 1 singles player, Kalynn Persell, recorded an 8-5 victory over Maddi Aullt, while Breanna Miller was an 8-5 winner at No. 5 over Odessa’s Jacy Cooksey.

In the other singles matches, Cora List lost at No. 2 to Makenna Muenstermann 4-8, followed by Emily Harris dropping a 3-8 final to Melisa Williams at No. 3. Jamie Baker fell at No. 4 to Michelle Morris by a 5-8 decision and Kaela Anders dropped a tough 6-8 No. 6 singles match to Cheyenne Sanders.
