First RHS Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is Saturday

chool Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted Saturday. The Richmond High School Alumni Association will host the ceremonies that will be held in the commons of the Richmond Middle School.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a dinner for those who have made reservations. Those attending will have their choice of steak, prepared by the Ray County Cattlemen’s Association, or pork ribs. There will also be a silent auction of sports memorabilia from the Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City T-Bones and others.

The induction ceremony begins at 7 p.m.

Members of the 2014 RHS Athletic Hall of Fame are:

Harold “Hank” Burnine: The 1950 RHS grad, set six school records during his career as a Spartan, including 79 career receptions and over 1,146 yards receiving.

Burnine was an All-American end in 1955 at the University of Missouri and followed up his college career with a brief stint playing for the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants in the NFL.

Lenvil Elliott: The first first-team All-State selection for the Spartans in football. The quick and powerful running back held several RHS records and went on to play for Northeast Missouri State (now Truman State) in Kirksville where, as a three-year starter, he helped guide the Bulldogs to three consecutive MIAA championships.
