MRVC East leading Holden escaped a visit to Southview Park Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over the Spartans. The Spartans then dropped an 8-2 decision the following night to visiting Higginsville as Richmond dropped to 2-6 in the league and 3-17 overall.

Holden improved to 5-1 in conference and 15-5 overall after pulling out its 8-inning victory Tuesday. Holden scored a run in the seventh to tie the game after the Spartans had taken a 1-0 lead in the third on three consecutive two-out singles by Haiden Kilpatrick, Kaleb Heber and Jordan Beck. Justin Stahl’s single chased home Davis Alterman who reached on a one-out double for the Eagles in the top of the seventh.

Austin Tevis led off the eighth with a single for Holden. A Spartan error put runners on first and third, and a sacrifice fly to center by Zane Spencer brought home the lead run.

Kilpatrick reached for Richmond with his fourth single of the game in the home half of the inning, but could not score.

Heber pitched a complete game for RHS. He scattered 7 hits. He did not walk a batter, struck out 5, but hit a pair, with the Spartans committing 3 errors behind him. Justin Jaeger got the win for Holden with 8 innings on the mound. He gave up 8 hits with a walk and a hit batter while striking out 10.
