Benefit volleyball tournament for girl, 6, hurt in mower accident

A benefit co-ed volleyball tournament will be held Saturday to help raise money for Izzy Smith, who was seriously injured in a mowing accident May 1.
The 6-year-old has recently returned home after a rare procedure called rotationplasty that will give her a better fit for a prosthetic lower leg. The eight-hour surgery involved removing sections of the thigh and shin, rotating her foot and attaching the shin to her thigh. The ankle will replace her kneecap.
Money raised during the tournament will be donated to the family to help them with the medical expenses.
The tournament for Izzy’s Squad begins at 8 a.m. at the Richmond High School and Richmond Middle School gyms. Teams can check in at the RHS gym.
The entry fee is $10 per player and all donations are welcome.
There will be competitive and recreation divisions.
More information can be found on the Richmond Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament Facebook page, or you can call Cody Appleberry (660-232-4556), Rhonda Roe (816-694-8312) or Jenny Burnett (816-204-8773).
