Bulldogs dominate home track

The Hardin-Central Bulldogs lapped the field Tuesday afternoon in winning their own invitational meet at the high school.

The Bulldogs rolled up 210 points, while the runner-up Santa Fe Chiefs ended the meet with 100 points in the 11-team field.

Wellington-Napoleon was third with 82 points. Braymer ended the day with 63.5 points to finish in fourth place and Southwest-Livingston County grabbed the fifth spot with 56 points. Blue Ridge Christian was sixth with 49 points, followed by the Bulldog junior varsity in seventh with 23 points, Hale and Norborne both totalled 17 points, while Tina-Avalon had 10 points and the Richmond JV placed 11th with 11.5.

Bulldog junior Wyatt Craven ended the day with three first-place finishes. He won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.0; the 400 meters in 53.6; and also captured the 200 with a time of 23.10. Sophomore Clif Kugler also took first place in three field events. He cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump and had a distance of 43-2 in the shot put to go along with the winning leap of 17-11 ½ in the long jump. He was also a runner-up in the triple jump with 39-2, while Craven had the fourth-place leap of 37-9 ¾.

Bulldog freshman Riley Gorham handled the distance races with a winning time of 4:50.9 in the 1,600, and crossing the line ahead of the pack in the 3,200 in 11:06.7. Rhyler Estenbaum won the 800 meters for Hardin-Central with a time of 2:14.10, with teammate Sean Utley in fourth place with 2:18.4.

The Bulldogs won three relay races for the day – the 4 x 200 in 1:39.4; the 4 x 400 in 3:48.7; and the 4 x 800 in 9:20.9. The 4 x 100 team placed second with 48.8.

Spencer Wheeler was a runner-up in the 400 meters when he crossed the line in 56.7.
