Excelsior Springs hands shutout loss to RHS netmen

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Facing tough weather conditions and the more experienced Tigers on their home courts at Excelsior Springs made a tough combination for the Spartan tennis team as they opened the new season.

Richmond came up empty in all nine matches and coach Julie Baker said her team has some work ahead.

“It was not fun,” she said. “Extremely windy and with several players playing their first match, it was difficult for them to adapt. We played poorly, but Excelsior is very good. We must work to get better.”

In singles results: No. 1 Chad Truby lost to Austin Buck, 1-8; No. 2 Collin Williamson lost to Kyle Smith, 0-8; No. 3 Chase Shipley lost to Collin O’Connel, 5-8; No. 4 Ryan Sander lost to Casey Williams, 0-8; No. 5, Wyatt Bulk lost to Kyle King, 4-8; No. 6 Joe Briant lost to Elijah Jones, 1-8.
