Coaches honor RHS winter athletes

Richmond High School closed out the winter sports season Monday night with its annual recognition ceremony.

The event was held in the high school commons area to honor those athletes who participated in basketball and wrestling, along with members of the cheerleading squads and dance team.

Coaches handed out letters and certificates of participation to their athletes and also gave out special awards that were voted on by teammates. The Spartan Award, for leadership, is selected by the coaches.

Wrestling coach Clint Minnick presented awards to his team. Outstanding Wrestler Award: freshman Braidn Ford, who was 36-16 and a fourth-place medalist at state. Most Improved Wrestler: Dylan Caldwell, a freshman, who qualified for state and ended the year with a 32-22 record. The Spartan Award: David Parker, a sophomore who was 16-22 and an academic all-conference selection.

Spartan basketball coach Duane Bastob gave out awards for his team. Junior varsity MVP: Daniel Pearon, a junior. Defensive Player of the Year: Senior Kody Reed. MVP: Senior Reid Summers. Spartan Award: Quinton Maxwell, a junior, and Reid Summers.
