Lady Bearcats overcome slow start for eighth victory

The Orrick Lady Bearcats showed some rust after they returned to the court following a 19-day break. The Lady Bearcats were able to shake off a slow start and 25 turnovers to pick up their eighth win in nine games with a 44-34 road victory at Plattsburg.

It wasn’t the usual holiday break for Orrick coach Mitch Comstock’s team.

“I had three starters that spent their entire Christmas Break in London at the London New Year’s Day Parade with Universal Cheer Association,” he said. That had a little bit of an effect on the game. We started very slowly, but played well enough in the second half to get the win.”

Orrick trailed 12-7 at the end of the opening period and 21-16 at the break before battling back to grab a 28-26 lead entering the final 8 minutes.

Madison Winters paced Orrick with a game-high 26 points as she hit 7 of 12 from the field and 12 of 16 free throws. She also grabbed 8 rebounds and had a team-high 3 steals.
