Spartans fall in opening dual to Tigers

The Richmond Spartans won the first two matches as they opened the 2013-14 wrestling season Thursday night at Excelsior Springs. However, the Tigers captured most of the remaining bouts on the way to a 57-18 victory.

David Parker began the night for Richmond with a 3-2 decision over Brent Bledsoe in the 220-pound weight class, followed by Alexander Hays winning by fall in 1:27 over Cale Lawrence at 285.

Garrett Siegel won by forfeit for Excelsior Springs at 106, and the next five matches were all won by fall.

Darrion McLaughlin defeated Richmond’s Braidn Ford at 113 in 3:48; Bret Rider stopped Dylan Caldwell in 3:48 in the 120-pound match; Issac Dennis won in 3:02 over Dominic Nobile at 126; Garrett Fortuna defeated Mason Hewitt in 1:10 at 132; and Brandon Sharp defeated Drew Fizer in 57 seconds in the 138-pound match.
