Win at Holden keeps Lady Spartans in race

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The Lady Spartans snapped a three-game skid Tuesday and picked up a big MRVC East victory at Holden. Richmond’s 5-2 win over the Eagles dropped Holden to 5-4 in league, while the Lady Spartans improved to 5-3 heading into the home stretch of the season.

Richmond, 7-8 overall, made its 8 hits count while pitcher Nicole Camp held the visitors to a half-dozen hits, but just one earned run. Camp stuck out 6 and did not walk a batter.

The top four in the Lady Spartans’ lineup combined to go 6 for 15 with leadoff hitter Elizabeth Windsor reaching base on a pair of singles while scoring 3 runs. Cleanup hitter Paige O’Doniel was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Mallory Cole, Tatum Ramsey, Camp and Lauren Fulte all added one hit apiece to the Richmond attack.

Ramsey’s single drove in Windsor in the top of the first inning as Richmond grabbed a 2-0 lead. The Lady Spartans added an unearned run in the third when Mallory Cole reached on an error and came home on O’Doniel’s one-out double.

Holden answered with its only runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of singles and a Richmond error. The Lady Spartans added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Windsor reached on an error to open the fifth inning and later scored on another Lady Eagle error. Windsor reached again on a one-out single in the seventh and scored the final run of the game.
